Zaffron Kitchen

Fancy some Indian Food? You can try Zaffron Kitchen at East Coast Road. I was not expecting Indian food today, the cafe that we initially wanted to go was closed and we ended up here at Zaffron Kitchen. However, I was not disappointed as the food & services was surprisingly good, worth coming back again.

With reasonable pricing and great ambience, this place is good for lunch, dinner or gathering with friends. We spent $18 per person.

nice wall decor~

The decor & design looks more like a Western restaurant than an Indian one.

We ordered a few of the Chef’s recommendation.

Butter Chicken~ One of the Must Try dish!  I will definitely order this if I come again.

Local delight! Egg Roti Prata~ Good for 2 person.

Potato Masala Dosai~ One of my favorite dishes! Can be shared by 2 person too.

Dum Chicken Briyani~
This dish is alright, I can get it better from somewhere else. I felt it had too much rice and not much chicken.

Garlic Naan, so good that you can eat it on its own.

Fish Masala, another one of the Chef’s Recommendation that we tried.
It was quite good; Fried and marinated in tumeric, chillies & lemon juice, you have to try this when you are there.

Penny University

Brunch today was at Penny University! It’s the perfect place on a Sunday morning to sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee & read a book. Situated at East Coast Road, we took a cab there specially just for our brunch. You can actually get there by bus too, its located just one bus stop away from  112 Katong mall.

We spent $22.50 per person.

Their cash register looks so unique~

Their Menu

Their bookshelf is decked with books & other reading materials

French Toast with Turkey Ham. Although it tasted good, but this french toast can be found anywhere else. Nothing special.

Lemon strawberry pie. For those who likes lemon or willing to try new flavors, this is a must-try! Tasted sour and sweet at the same time. Meringue was soft and fluffy. However, I would not order it again as it was too sour for me!

Chocolate Macaron with pink peppercorn Ice cream~ For peculiar tastebuds! I never knew what peppercorn ice cream tasted like until today. You can taste the peppery taste, but its not spicy at all.
Those who doesn’t like their ice cream too sweet, this is just for you!

Sourdough Toast with Earl grey & fig jam. The bread didn’t taste sour at all, if you are looking for authentic sourdough bread, this was not it. Earl grey & Fig Jam tasted exactly as what I thought it would taste like. Nice~

Shepherd’s pie, crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside.

Nilgiri frost tea. Tasted a little like Earl grey, but slightly more bitter. It goes very well with the lemon pie though.

You can smell the aroma of the coffee when you step into this place. Definitely must try their coffee! Their latte was not over sweetened, just right!
