♥ Homemade Kimbap Recipe ♥

Korean rice rolls, a healthier option for dinner!

  • SERVES: About 4 person
  • PREP: about 1 Hour

  • Toasted Seaweed (4 sheets)
  • Korean rice
  • carrot
  • Japanese Cucumber
  • Pickled radish
  • 3 eggs
  • Beef Sausage (2 pcs)
  • Spinach
  • salt
  • sesame oil
  • garlic (1 pc)
  • ground white pepper
  • vegetable oil

  1. After rice is cooked and almost cooled, mix well with sesame oil and a pinch of salt.
  2. Stir fry sliced carrots lightly with a dash of salt, chopped garlic & ground white pepper.
  3. Whisk eggs until evenly yellow and fry into flat omelette with a little vegetable oil.
  4. Cut the omelette  into long strips.
  1. Slice 2 sausages into 2 by the length and lightly fry sausages.
  1. Chop Japanese cucumber and pickled radish into long slices.
  1. Carefully wash the spinach and put into a pot of boiling water with half a teaspoon of salt. Boil for 30 seconds to 1 min.
  1. Using a bamboo sushi roller lay the dried seaweed shiny side down.
  2. Spread rice evenly onto 2/3 of the seaweed, leaving the top 1/3 bare (if you moisten your fingers or a spoon to pat down the rice, you’ll get less of a sticky mess). Take extra care not to moisten your fingers too much as it will cause the seaweed to be soggy.
  3. Lay the ingredients down around 1/2 of the way up from the bottom of the seaweed.
  4. Roll from the bottom (as if you’re rolling a sleeping bag), pressing down to make the fillings stay in.
  5. As you continue to roll, pull the whole thing down towards the end of the bamboo mat.
  6. Add a few pieces of rice along the top of the seaweed seam to hold the roll together.
  7. Set aside and continue with other seaweed sheets.
  8. Cut each roll into 7 – 8 pieces.

Han Geun Doo Geun Korean Restaurant – Singapore

My friends and I happened to be at Chinatown Point one evening and we discovered this newly opened Korean Barbecue restaurant. Therefore we decided to have our lunch on a saturday afternoon at this place.

This Korean bbq restaurant offers ala carte buffet with 39 dishes ranging from a wide wariety of meat and stews.

Besides Ala Carte BBQ buffet, they have set lunch menu too.

Something I like about this BBQ restaurant is that they have the smoke suction device installed. Now your hair and clothes don’t have to smell like BBQ meat after your meal.

Here comes our food!

The Gimbap is very nice! I will definitely order this again next time.

Ddeokbokki (or spicy rice cakes), tasted alright, not as nice as certain places. A little too soft and not firm enough. We didn't managed to finish it.

The Kimchi Pancake tasted nothing out of the ordinary. It is not very crispy though.

The side dishes are found at the self service counter towards the back of the restaurant.

Next up, the meat! The beef was served very fresh and juicy. We kept ordering the beef, plate after plate.

One thing good about it was that the beef was quite thinly sliced and we could really eat a lot, especially wrapping the piping hot beef with the freshly served lettuce. The lettuce is so fresh and green that I couldn’t find any black parts or holes in the leaves to pluck away which I always do in other korean BBQ restaurants.

We also ordered a plate of spicy and non-spicy chicken. I prefer the spicy chicken as it has a stronger taste.

At first, we were afraid that we could not finish the meat, as they will charge us for leftover food. Surprisingly, the 3 of us ordered 6 plates of meat and finished every bit of it.  The only dish we did not finish is the Ddeokbokki. We were too full to try their stew/soup. But I will definitely be visiting this place again soon to try their other dishes.

Seoul Yummy Korean Casual Dining at Bugis +

Last night’s dinner with my ex-colleagues was at Seoul Yummy~ Its a restaurant serving Korean cuisine, situated at Bugis plus (beside the Bugis mrt station).

Not all the dishes are up to my standard for last night’s dinner. We spent around $20 each person last night. Overall it was not too bad for me, however I might not go back to the same outlet at bugis plus as some of their service crew has attitude problem.

Here’s last night dinner!

cold noodles~ I kind of like the pork in it :)

yummy chicken! Couldn’t have enough of it! ^^

The beef is amazing~ Not too fatty, tasted just right.

Ginseng Chicken! One of the dish that many of my colleagues felt its the best dish for last night’s dinner. Chicken is very tender and tasty soup!

I personally like the potato pancake, though its not what I imagine it to be. But its quite nice~

This Kimchi fried rice is the worst dish of last night’s dinner. It’s very salty and a little sour. Many of my colleagues also did not like it. If you are feeling adventurous or have unique taste buds, you can try it.

The fish cake is not very nice too. Quite tasteless. Will never order it again.

Bibimbap! It’s not too bad, can try!

Korean hotpot spicy meat soup!
The soup is not spicy at all though it looks spicy.
Not for someone who loves spicy food. I love the meat in it ^^ they have the seafood option too.

Dessert! The top part is soft serve yogurt. It’s NOT Vanilla ice cream, which many of us thought it was. Drizzled with tangy orange sauce. This dessert is not up to my expectations.

One of the favorite dessert for last night! Hot red bean, with matcha mochi and heart shaped mashmallow.
A MUST try!

I'm loving it!

Blue Garden Korean BBQ Buffet – Singapore

My friends and I were searching for a nice Korean Barbecue restaurant for our dinner as we would like to catch up since we have not seen each other for some time. We came across this place through the web and decided to try it. Blue Garden is located in Link Hotel, 10 mins walk away from Tiong Bahru Mrt station.

This korean BBQ buffet offers free-flow of Korean dishes like Ginseng Chicken Soup, Kimchi seafood Pancakes, Korean Spicy Rice Cakes (Ddeokbokki), and a variety of Kimchi (Raddish, Cabbage, Leak, Cucumber). They also offer free flow of  Beef Belly, Pork Belly, three different types of Bulgogi (beef, chicken and pork), Pork Collar, & rib eye Beef. Apparently the Chicken Bulgogi seems very popular as the waiter kept refilling the tray.

After trying the Bulgogi meat, I couldn’t have enough of it! And I was also addicted to their lettuce, I kept refilling our plates with lots of lettuce to go along with the delicious meat~ We ate till our stomach could not fill anymore meat~

Oh! And there is free flow of ice cream too~ Yam, strawberry, Chocolate..

The price is quite reasonable too and the ambience was not bad to have friends gathering.

However, the place is not very well ventilated. Though they provided adequate fans and air conditioner, our clothes and hair still smelt of BBQ smoke and oil after we are done.

Delicious meat!

Chicken ginseng Soup, seaweed soup & abalone porridge~

seafood kimchi Pancake, fried chicken, spicy rice cakes & potatoes

wide selection of meat

Various variety of Kimchi
